Background to In The Light

The title of my website comes from a Led Zeppelin song of the same name which appeared on the Physical Grafitti album which was released in February 1975. The track was recorded in studios at Headley Grange in early 1974, but Led Zeppelin never performed the track live. Robert Plant did a number of live renditions during his solo years. There was an excellent video created by Bluidmerl on youtube entitled "Airships of the Past" to the tune of In The Light, but it seems that the copyright police have been at work (check out some of Bluidmerl's other excellent creations eg Behind Blues Eyes). There is a Led Zeppelin tribute band in Chicago called In The Light.

Early studio recordings featured different lyrics and had different titles including In The Morning. The lyrics for the final version of In The Light are given below.

The "light" also has meaning within the context of spirituality and mysticism, to which many pages on this web site are dedicated. In this context it is referring to contact with the Divine - heightened consciousness, knowledge, self-realisation or enlightenment.
