Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin early days

Led Zeppelin was formed by Jimmy Page in 1968 following the breakup of The Yardbirds.  Twelve years later in 1980 John Bonham died accidentally, and that was end of that phase in the career for the remaining three members.  All three have enjoyed good solo careers and occasionally two or three have got together for a brief reunion.  Page and Plant toured extensively in 1995 and 1998 and in December 2007 there was a single show reunion with Jason Bonham on drums.  It is unlikely that the band will ever tour or play together again.

Contrary to popular belief, Led Zeppelin were not a heavy metal band.  The music, as described by Jimmy Page, is a mixture light and shade with a strong blues foundation.

Led Zeppelin only released a small number of albums during their 12 year career.  In the late 1980's I discovered that there were unauthorised live recordings released called "bootlegs".  It wasn't until the early 90's that I managed to get hold of some ... and the live shows blew me away.  Many shows can now be downloaded from bittorrent sites on the internet.
