Norse Gods

Norse gods geneology

The main Norse Gods are shown below.

Odin
Frigg
Thor
Tyr
Odin (Woden)

Important in Norse mythology are 9 worlds including the world of man, and Ragnarok - a series of cataclysmic events leading to submersion of the world and later reemergence (similarities to Biblical flood).  Yggdrasil is the world tree - parallels have been drawn to the Hebrew Tree-of-Life and analogies to the nervous system of the human body (the sacrifice of Odin relating to hormonal changes in the body during growth).

Norse mythology had a strong influence on some Led Zeppelin song lyrics, including Stairway to Heaven.  It has also had a lasting influence on our society and the names of Gods and Goddesses crop up in daily conversation:

Day of Week
Norse influence
Monday Moons day
Tuesday Tyr's day
Wednesday Odin's (Woden's) day
Thursday Thor's day
Friday Frigg's day
Saturday [Saturn's day - Roman influence]
Sunday Sun's day
