The Emerald Tablets of Thoth (the Atlantean)

Thoth (12 kB)From what I can gather, the "Emerald Tablets of Thoth" are actually a collection of some of the oldest mystical works, pre-dating any of the current religions.  A great library of pre-Christian literary works was lost when the library of Alexandria was destroyed.  Clearly, not everything was destroyed but fragments of various texts made their way to other places and became the foundation for various occult societies.  I have found several "Emerald Tablets of Thoth" texts, each quite different but showing a similar style.  I therefore believe they are each part of a much bigger body of work that has largely been lost to the world.

Remember when reading these translations in English that they are indeed translations.

This particular work on these pages can be traced back to European alchemists in the 13th century, but the tablet dates back much further.  Some say it was originally written in Atlantean characters (in which case, who translated it and how?), others Phoenician script.  Hermes (Thoth) is alleged to have lived about 1900 BC, but other sources attribute him with immortality dating him back to the time of Atlantis and credit him with the construction of the pyramids.  His contribution to Egyptian society, including the introduction of writing, was merely another step in raising the consciousness of society following the fall of the Atlantean empire.  Alexander the Great may be the discoverer of the Tablet, and it is one of the few remaining works of ancient Egyptian (many burnt in the library at Alexandria).  The work was known to Appollonius of Tyana (1st century Greek philosopher).  As far as I am aware, the original green tablet of stone or glass no longer exists - it certainly isn't in any viewable in any public museum or private collection.

Dr Doreal, the founder of the Brotherhood of the White Temple obtained his source from Tibet around the time of the Second World War.  The literal translation is given here chapter-by-chapter.  These are ALL the tablets including the additional "secret" two.  I recommend the above book by Dr Doreal is to interested persons - it contains an interpretation to all but the last two most secret tablets, plus an introduction and short history of Thoth.

Other translations and details on Thoth:

Emerald Tablet and Jade

In the ancient world, the green stone Jade was one of the most precious materials.  It was far more valuable than gold to early societies such as the Chinese dynasties.  It therefore makes sense that the most precious of religious texts would be inscribed on such stone.  It may also explain why the tablets have not survived to this day.  All the golden ornaments buried with the pharoahs in Egypt seem to have been plundered and melted down by greedy thieves, and the same fate may have befallen Jade tablets.

Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus

Here is the Emerald Table of Hermes as given in Patrick J Smiths book referenced above (his book includes an interpretation by Hortulanus and the history of the tablets).  This table is also used by the Builders of the Adytum

The second statement is one so often quoted "as above, so below" and attributed to Thoth.  The line from the Lords prayer "Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven" is derived from this fundamental statement.

The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus

I.  True it is, without falsehood, certain and most true.
II. That which is below is like that which is above, and that which is above is like that which is below, to accomplish the miracles of One Thing.
III. And as all things have proceeded from One, by the meditation of One, so all things are born from this One Thing, by adaptation.
IV. The Sun is the Father thereof.  The Moon is its Mother.
V. The Wind carried it in its belly.  The Earth is its Nurse.
VI. The Father of all the Telesme (works of wonder, hidden treasure) of the whole world is here.  Its strength and power is complete if it be converted into earth.
VII. Separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, gently and with unremitting care.
VIII. It ascends from the earth to the heaven, and again descends to the earth,
IX. and thereby gathers to itself the strength of things above, and of things below.
X. By this means, all the glory of the world shall be yours, and all obscurity shall flee from you.  It is the strong strength of all strength.  For it shall overcome every subtle thing, and penetrate every solid thing.
XI. Thus was the world created.  Hence shall wonderful adaptations be achieved, of which the means is here.
XII. Therefore I am called Hermes Trismegistus.  For I hold three parts of the philosophy of the whole world.
XIII. That which I had to say concerning the operation of the Sun is completed.

Here endeth the Emerald Table of Hermes.
