Channeling

Mediumship, chaneling, spiritualist church meetings -it is not a recent phenomenon, it has been going on since ancient times. Some people are able to enter a trance state where they either relay messages from spirits, or the spirit entities take over their bodies and speak through them. This is one step beyond the psychics and clairvoyants who read crystal balls at gypsy fairs. For some of these people the presence of another being speaking through them came unexpectedly and as a shock. Some famous examples include:

Jane Roberts who channeled Seth
Aiwass was the being who dictated The Book of the Law to Aleister Crowley (I believe through his wife who was in a trance state)
Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon Church, received visitations from an angel who dictated to him the works that are the basis for the church's teachings
The Oracle at the temple at Delphi in ancient Greece entered a trance state after inhaling vapours (which may have been methane or ethylene, which can cause hallucinations and altered states of consciousness) and delivered messages to persons seeking advice
Tibetan Buddhists still use Shamans who enter trance states during dance, on the basis that in the altered states of consciousness they are in contact with knowledgeable spirit entities.

I have been in the audience and witnessed several channels:

Tabaash through Blair Styra
P'taah through Jani King
Kryon through Lee Carroll

There is no doubt that the personality of the channel is altered markedly when the other consciousness comes through, and the information provided can be useful, thought inspiring and original.

The question is - are deceased spirits (as in Tabaash) or beings currently alive on another planet (as in P'taah in the Pleiades) really speaking through these people, or is it an extreme case of schizophrenia? Is there another personality locked away deep inside the subconscous brain of the channel? What is really going on?

(Or is schizophrenia a case of non-physical entities taking over the lives of living beings?).

An interesting point is that when channeling, the person will often adopt certain body poses, a common one being hand gestures. I noticed that when P'taah was being channeled, one of Jani Kings hands became rigid at her side with fingers pointing a certain way. This started when she began channeling and continued until she finished channeling. Having the fingers of the hands fully extended (instead of curled over, relaxed) has also been noted in Hindu literature as indicative of a master in a high state of consciousness. I'd like to research this further.

A mechanism for Channeling

Whilst there are probably some intentionally "hoax" channelers, for many of the well documented cases above the entry of the personality of another being into their lives was a great surprise. They didn't look for it, and for some it was a scary and troubling experience when it first occured.

Referring back to The Framework, clearly something is going on below the level of conscious awareness. I cannot say whether it is happening in the subconscious or the superconscious. Does a completely separate personality (or in some cases multiple personalities) develop within the inner brain regions? Or is a connection established between the oldest reptilian part of the brain (Medulla Oblongata region) to an entity somewhere else (either in the afterlife, or on another planet)? Some texts state that the pineal gland can be activated and act as a communication link.

In my own experience I have occasionally had particularly vivid dreams. Vivid scenes, people and places that I have never met, never seen on TV, and clearly are not real physical places on this planet. Are these the product of my imagination, or are they being picked up from some external source? Whilst the latter theory is the most interesting, the workings of the inner brain cannot be discounted. The portion of the brain of which we have conscious awareness is only a small part of the total organ. Recall the amazing abilities of some Savants, the ability to memorise the value of pi to tens of thousands of decimal places as a type of landscape picture. Whatever the truth, there is certainly a great deal to be learnt the workings of the brain.

In his book Supernatural, Graham Hancock explores the imagery that arises when taking hallucingenic compounds known to man for thousands of years from cacti and mushrooms. He points out the similarity between experiences and visions in cave drawings from many places around the globe, leading to the conclusion that these substances are opening up channels to the subconscious mind. There is no doubt that there is a huge unexplored subconscious world. The question is - is there also a superconscious world beyond that?

In summary, as we have very limited awareness of the inner workings of an extremely complex organ (the human brain) there are indeed several possible explanations for channeling:

A separately developed personality in the inner brain
A super-conscious connection to the external collective conscious, or to the consciousness of another being
